Founded in the late-1990s at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the Maimonides Leaders Fellowship has since spread to 25 campuses around the United States and Canada. The program, spanning one semester, encourages students to engage the texts and ideas of their Jewish heritage in a mature and sophisticated manner.
Featuring guest speakers from all walks of life (Jewish scientists, teachers of mysticism, leading physicians, and black-belt martial artist rabbis), as well as discussions on topics ranging from spirituality to relationships to Why We Do the Things We Do. Off-campus trips include a weekend Shabbat extravaganza in Far Rockaway, New York, a visit to a Jewish wedding and ritual bath (mikvah), and a formal graduation dinner, where students share their impressions of the program and receive their graduation certificates and stipends.
